Project Information
- Jim Mackay built the Flying Dutchman bought home New Zealand’s first yachting Olympic Gold Medal 
- Jim’s sons, Owen and David have continued his legacy with Mackay Boats now having won 30 Olympic Medals and 140 World Championships 
- The race yachts produced by Mackay Boats are renowned for their meticulous construction and fit-out 
- Tamarau is a traditional 22’ L Class Mullet Boat in which Jim is a five times winner of the Lipton Cup and the Mackay family continues to compete 
- The 100th Edition of the Lipton Cup was raced on 1 May 2021

Selection Criteria
- Fast hard racing finish 
- To withstand regular fine burnishing with 600-grade paper without any significant reduction in coating thickness 
- Capable of remaining out of the water for long periods with no detrimental effects 
Coating Performance
- Coppercoat was applied to Tamarau in 2000 
- Almost every year for over twenty years, the Coppercoat surface on Tamarau has been fine-burnished before racing 
- Tamarau consistently finishes at or near the head of the highly competitive mullet boat fleet
