Commercial Vessels

HullWell System, 10+ Years Protection & Prevention – Underwater Surface Coatings for Commercial Vessels.

Performance

  • Coppercoat Commercial Multi-Season Antifoul Coating is proven as a long-efficacy hull substrate protection and biofouling prevention coating on over 80,000 steel, aluminium, timber, and composite vessels worldwide.

  • Coppercoat is the only dual-function two-part epoxy antifoul coating in the world. It is highly durable and resistant to abrasive and impact damage and protects all hull substrate types for ten or more years.

  • Coppercoat prevents fouling for ten or more years.

  • For commercial vessels, the maintenance requirements for Coppercoat are minimal. Typically aligned with interim surveys or other planned maintenance, Coppercoat requires fine burnishing only at 24-36-month intervals.

  • Coppercoat is non-eroding, highly durable, and more resistant to abrasive and impact damage than any other antifouling product.

  • Coppercoat Commercial has a coefficient of drag lower than most antifouling paints generating greater fuel efficiency, improved speed, and reduced emissions.

  • Coppercoat Commercial is also favoured by the developers and operators of high-speed commercial vessels due to its lighter weight advantage over foul release films and water-absorbing traditional antifoul coatings.

  • CK426 Ceramic Infused Two-Part Epoxy Anticorrosive Barrier Coating is the preferred predecessor coating for Coppercoat. The two coatings chemically fuse together creating a hard, non-porous monolithic shell over underwater surfaces and eliminating the risk of inter-coat delamination. The typical dry-finished thickness of CK 426 and Coppercoat on a commercial vessel is 500 microns.

Economics

  • The relative simplicity of the HullWell Commercial Vessel System (two chemically bonded coatings versus multiple primers, tie coats, undercoats, barrier coats, and antifoul coats) minimises the risks and associated costs of application failure.

  • Any initial premium attached to the HullWell Commercial Vessel System is typically erased by the time that a traditional antifouling paint would require replacing. Thereafter for every year, the system will deliver significant cost savings.

  • The minimal maintenance requirements and long efficacy of the HullWell Commercial Vessel System minimises out-of-service periods and maximises vessel productivity.

  • HullWell’s refined Performance + Cost Analytics software delivers key information to facilitate accurate decision-making involving underwater surface performance and protection for commercial vessels.

Environmental Responsibility

  • Visible and demonstrably effective environmentally responsible and sustainable practices are the new normal for commercial enterprise .... they speak of core values, they distinguish one entity from another, they typically enhance commercial performance, and they make our planet better.

  • Environmental and sustainability benefits of working with HullWell and the HullWell Commercial Vessel System

  • Every product is solvent-free; with no harmful VOC discharges; no harmful exposure to people and sea life.

  • Coppercoat Multi-Season Antifoul Coating is manufactured using 100% recycled copper.

  • Coppercoat Multi-Season Antifoul Coating does not discharge biocides, toxins, silicon, or plastics into the marine environment.

  • Surface efficiency reduces fuel | energy consumption and reduces emissions.

  • Minimal maintenance requirements reduce emissions associated with the frequent maintenance required of traditional underwater surface coatings.

  • The HullWell system produces no end-of-life waste.

Case Studies

19m Fully Electric Carbon Fibre High Speed Passenger Ferry

“We selected Coppercoat for Ika Rere because it had the lightest weight of any antifoul coating considered, it is impermeable, and it has a very low drag surface.

It does not erode on leading edges and high turbulence areas, its maintenance requirements are minimal, it is effective against fouling for ten years, it delivers significant operational cost savings and it fully aligns with the builder’s and operators’ environmental objectives”.
