Superyachts

HullWell System, 10+ Years Protection & Prevention –Environmental Responsibility, Performance and Economics Superyachts.

Environmental Responsibility

  • The superyacht industry and the Clear Ocean Pact subscribed to by owners, shipbuilders, suppliers, crew and management companies, are making significant and positive strides in technological innovation towards sustainability and ocean preservation.

  • Most of the pollution of the marine environment is attributed to acidification, eutrophication, toxins and plastic waste.

  • Innovation in the superyacht community includes:

  • Electric, hydrogen and hybrid power units to reduce the use of fossil fuels and reduce VOC emissions

  • The utilisation of natural fibres to replace plastics and solvent-based materials,

  • Replacement of solvent-based paints containing toxins with water-based coatings

  • Replacement of eroding biocide and solvent-based underwater surface paints with non-eroding, biocide-free and solvent-free, long efficacy coatings.

  • Coppercoat Multi-Season Antifoul Coating is internationally acknowledged as the most environmentally responsible antifoul coating available. The product strongly aligns with many of the objectives of the Clear Ocean Pact.

  • Coppercoat Superyacht Multi-Season Antifoul Coating is manufactured using entirely 100% recycled copper.

  • Coppercoat is solvent-free; it does not discharge VOCs into the Earth’s atmosphere.

  • Coppercoat Multi-Season Antifoul Coating is non-eroding and does not leech biocides, toxins, silicon, or plastics into the marine environment.

  • The minimal maintenance requirements and long efficacy of the HullWell Marine Infrastructure System reduce emissions associated with the regular replacement and frequent maintenance required of traditional underwater surface coatings.

  • The HullWell system produces no end-of-life waste.

Performance

  • Coppercoat Superyacht Multi-Season Antifoul Coating is proven as a long-efficacy hull substrate protection and biofouling prevention coating on over 80,000 steel, aluminium, timber and composite vessels worldwide.

  • Coppercoat Superyacht is the only dual-function two-part epoxy antifoul coating in the world. It is non-eroding, non-porous, highly durable and resistant to abrasive and impact damage. It protects all hull substrate types for ten or more years.

  • Coppercoat Superyacht prevents fouling for ten or more years.

  • The maintenance requirements for Coppercoat Superyacht are minimal. It requires fine burnishing only, at 18 – 24 month intervals, undertaken either in or out of water.

  • The coefficient of drag of Coppercoat Superyacht is lower than most antifouling paints generating greater fuel efficiency, improved speed and reduced emissions.

  • Coppercoat Superyacht is lighter per m2 than foul-release films and does not increase in weight or volume over time as with water-absorbing traditional antifoul coatings.

  • CK426 Ceramic Infused Two-Part Epoxy Anticorrosive Barrier Coating is the preferred predecessor coating for Coppercoat Superyacht. The two coatings chemically fuse together creating a hard, non-porous monolithic shell over underwater surfaces and eliminating the risk of inter-coat delamination. The typical dry-finished thickness of CK 426 and Coppercoat on a superyacht is 600 microns.

Economics

  • HullWell’s refined Performance + Cost Analytics software delivers key information to facilitate accurate decision-

making involving underwater surfaces performance and protection for superyachts.

  • HullWell Performance and Cost Analytics demonstrate the significant performance and economic benefits of Coppercoat Superyacht Multi-Season Antifoul Coating that arise from long efficacy, substrate protection, fouling prevention, durability, low drag, minimum maintenance and minimum out-of-service durations when compared to alternative coatings.
