Leisure Craft

HullWell System, 10+ Years Protection & Prevention – Underwater Surface Coatings for Leisure Craft.

Remove Multiple Layers of old Antifouling Paint

  • Multiple layers of traditional antifouling paint add weight, volume, and speed inhibiting drag to the underwater surfaces of sail and powered craft. Vessels will be slow and | or burn more fuel. Multiple layers of antifouling paint eventually delaminate by flaking, absorbing water, and becoming ineffective against fouling.

  • The removal of old antifouling paint is universally claimed as the worst task of leisure craft ownership.

  • Traditional methods of removing antifouling paint (scraping or blasting) are labour-intensive, expensive, and often damage sound epoxy coatings and hull substrates adding further unnecessary expense. People are exposed to highly toxic substances. These methods of removal are now prohibited in many marine facilities.

  • DeFOUL Antifouling Paint Remover is biodegradable and toxin and solvent-free.

  • DeFOUL Antifouling Paint Remover typically removes ten years of traditional antifouling in a single application within 24 hours.

  • DeFOUL Antifouling Paint Remover creates the ideal underwater surfaces base for a ten-year+ hull protection and biofouling prevention solution.

  • A DeFOUL Antifouling Paint Remover Pack includes DeFOUL Capture Cloth, a non-woven, needle-punched fabric that captures all solid waste (removed antifouling paint) but allows liquid waste (biodegradable DeFOUL and wash- water) to permeate through. In most regions, DeFOUL liquid waste may be disposed of directly into the wastewater system.

10+ Years Hull Protection and Biofouling Prevention Solution

  • For steel, aluminium, timber, and composite hulls requiring additional protection from corrosion and water ingress, CK426 Ceramic Infused Two-Part Epoxy Barrier Coating serves these purposes.

  • CK 426 is a perfect predecessor coating for Coppercoat Multi-Season Antifoul Coating. Applied in sequence, Coppercoat chemically fuses with CK426 creating a hard, non-porous, monolithic shell and eliminating the risk of inter-coat delamination often seen with ablative antifouling paints.

  • Coppercoat is the only dual-function two-part epoxy antifoul coating in the world. It is highly durable and resistant to abrasive and impact damage and protects all hull substrate types for ten or more years.

  • Coppercoat prevents fouling for ten or more years.

  • Coppercoat maintenance is confined to a fine burnish at approx. 18-month intervals.  Burnishing may be undertaken in or out of the water.

  • For a new GRP vessel, the cost of applying Coppercoat is less than 12% higher than for traditional antifouling paint. A ten-year solution versus a 24-month or less solution.

  • For vessels requiring the removal of old coatings and the application of Coppercoat, breakeven compared to traditional antifoul coatings is typically between 12 and 24 months. Thereafter, for every following year, Coppercoat delivers significant cost savings. The costs associated with maintaining/replacing traditional antifouling paint (lift-outs, pressure washing, hardstand fees, labour, consumables, paint, etc) are minimised or eliminated.

Case Studies

18 Metre Wavecrusher Sports Fisherman

“I have had Coppercoat on my 18m Wavecrusher for 14 years and pretty much have not touched it during that time.

It is still doing what it’s meant to do, and I know from observation that I would never have got the performance or cost savings from any other antifoul coating”.

Catalina

“Coppercoat as a two-part epoxy, has provided protection for the boat’s underwater surfaces (45 years old), in a way that no other antifoul coating can.

Our initial investment on Coppercoat has paid for itself many times over … friends with traditional antifouling have had to re-coat 8 or 9 times over 14 years whereas we have done none”.

Larus, 15-Year Circumnavigation

“It is effective against fouling for four to five times longer than ablative, biocidal antifouling. It does not leech biocides and toxic materials into the sea, so we are doing our bit to protect the world’s oceans and sea life against the damage caused by ablative antifouling paints.”.

First Solo Non-Stop Circumnavigation of the world

Coppercoat was selected for Suhaili’s restoration not just for its long protective attributes, but very importantly, due to its ability to flex without cracking as the vessel’s teak planking expanded and contacted in different environments.
